We invite you to participate in Kenya Expedition in aid Shauri Yako Youth Drop-in.
The expedition will take you to Nyeri, Central Province, Shauri Yako Community. Here you will be hosted by Shauri Yako Community Youth Support Centre (SYSC). SYSC works with vulnerable children, youth, providing outreach and development programs. This is a very poor community and your contribution will go a long way to creating opportunities for local children and youth. You cans see more information about SYSC at: www.shauriyakoysc.org

Itinerary
Day 1
August 11 arrive in Jomo Kenyatta Airport, Nairobi. Welcome by our Country Program Coordinator and transfer to the hotel. Stays overnight in Nairobi for in-country orientation and tour the capital city of Kenya.
Day 2 – 7
Leave early in the morning for Nyeri on road through central Kenya coffee and tea farmlands. Nyeri town is a provincial centre for Central Kenya. The project is located in Shauri Yako slum community, at the edge of Nyeri town. On arrival in Nyeri, check in at Green Hills Hotel in time for lunch, after lunch, visit Shauri Yako Community Youth Support Centre, site for the community work to meet the community people.
Here you will stay for 6 days interacting and working side by side with the community people, helping to building a semi-permanent kitchen room for the SYSC Drop-in Centre. The drop-in serves vulnerable children, youth including orphans from community. You will also get involved in street kids feeding program. The community people are very warm and generous.
Each day after work, you can participate in SYSC youth activities like soccer game or visit the open market, or visit the neighborhood to see the attractions in the area, like Lord Baden Powell, the founder of World Scouts Movement burial site. You will also have opportunity to meet Tushauriane Women Self-help Group, learn how women in Shauri Yako Community strive to reduce crippling poverty. Accommodation and all meal at Green Hills Hotel.
Day 8 -10
Visit The Great Rift Valley and hike the Aberdares Ranges Park. If time allows, you will visit Iria-ini Team farms, Kagochi tea factory and Karatina Open Air Market, the biggest open air market in Africa. Accommodation and meals at Green Hills Hotel and safari camps.
Day 10 –13
A 3 days safari trip to the famous Masai Mara. Three days of game viewing and visiting Masai village. On this trip, you have opportunity to see The Great Immigration of the Wildebeest and the BIG FIVE.
Day 14
After an early breakfast leave Masai Mara, returning to Nairobi in time for lunch, last minute shopping and transfer to Airport for homebound flight.
What to expect
- After booking for the expedition, you will receive a pre-departure package, including a GSDE handbook, valuable information like necessary immunizations, travel tips, staying health tips and recommended clothing.
- Through out the expedition, a comfort accommodation will be provided in modest hotels, hostels, safari camps and guesthouses. Three meals a day will be provided and a 24/7 support.
- GSDE staff will be available either on email or phone to answer any questions that you might have before departure.
